History

The start of 1900s evolved Interlaken in Bernese Oberland from a small town on an alluvial plain to an impressive mountain landscape. Well-renowned personalities such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Felix Mendelssohn journeyed the mighty mountains encapsulating Interlaken. The success of Interlaken as a worth-experience tourist destination was taken to whole a new level post the completion of the Bernese Oberland Railway in 1890 and the Jungfrau Railway in 1912.

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

Interlaken is the base for excursion to Jungfrau – Top of Europe. The 100-years old Interlaken line will take you up by train passing through the most stupendous landscapes. The highlight is the final railway station on the top which is the highest in Europe where you reach crossing a 7 km long tunnel through the mountain. Once you reach the top you will be amazed with a view of 23 km long glacier – The Aletsch Glacier, which is the UNESCO World Heritage. Harder Kulm

Take a funicular up, within 10 minutes, you reach on the top on Interlaken’s own mountain – Harder Kulm. This street and the promenade is the main street of Interlaken running across the river Aare as it flows from Lake Brienz in the east to Lake Thun in the eest. St. Beatus Caves & Waterfalls

Winter Sports
